Mimi/Sheshe (Mermaid Melody)

Things I’ve not 100% decided what to do about in my rewrite. Spoilers for both the actual Mermaid Melody series and vague ones for my rewrite below. 

1. Sara and Gaito

In the manga/anime, they die. I don’t want to do that, especially since I plan on expanding Sara and Gaito’s stories, especially Gaito. I plan on stripping Sara of the “Mermaid Princess” title so Seira can exist, but idk exactly how. I feel like she and Baya should have a reconciliation moment. Maybe they and Gaito can help rebuild the Orange Kingdom?

2. Sheshe and Mimi

In the manga/anime, they have an ambiguous sister/lover relationship and they die. I’m making sure that they are clearly not sisters in the rewrite. I don’t want them to die because they canonically fit into the “Bury Your Gays” troupe so so bad. I haven’t really figured out what to do exactly because I’m writing them as very self-serving, so I don’t feel like the traditional redemption arc fits quite right at the moment.

I also kinda like the Lucia x Mimi ship, but plan on ending with Sheshe x Mimi and Lucia x Kaito. Idk if I’m going to do anything with any Lucia x Mimi.

3. Michal Amagi and Kaito’s Forgotten Memories

I do not care for the memory wipe for drama, so that is out. I’m not a huge fan of Michal’s possessiveness of Kaito. The easiest thing to do would be just not to write her in. However, Michal and Rihito’s existence pose interesting questions about the world the story takes place in and Panthalassa’s place in it, so I need to figure out what to do with them because it interests me enough to make me want the Amagis in. 

4. Post Pure

In the manga, Lucia becomes the next Aqua Regina. In the anime, this is a plot point that is ignored. The way that I am writing Aqua Regina, idk if there can be a next Aqua Regina. 

In light of MM Aqua’s Ch 1 and 2, I am sorely tempted to rewrite that too...help
